Gems Care

Natural gemstones are beautiful and unique, but every gemstone needs the right care to maintain its shine, color, and beauty. Some stones are hard and durable, while others are softer and need extra attention.
Follow this simple gemstone care guide to help protect your loose gemstones, beads, carvings, and gemstone jewellery.

Gemstone Cleaning Tips:-

  • Use lukewarm water, a small amount of mild soap, and a soft cloth for most durable gemstones.
  • Gently wipe the stone instead of scrubbing it hard.
  • Use a soft-bristled brush only when suitable for the gemstone.
  • Avoid bleach, chlorine, strong detergents, and household cleaners.
  • Rinse carefully, then dry the gemstone completely with a clean and soft cloth.
  • Avoid ultrasonic cleaning for delicate, porous, heavily included, fracture-filled, dyed, or treated gemstones unless a professional confirms it is safe.
  • Always check the specific care requirements of your gemstone before cleaning.

Gemstones Care Tips:-

  • Store each gemstone or jewelry piece in separate packets or compartments to avoid cracks and scratches, especially hard and soft gemstones. Diamonds, sapphires, and other hard stones can scratch softer gemstones, so keep other stones separate from them.
  • Use a soft pouch, padded box, or fabric-lined compartment.
  • Make sure gemstones are completely dry before storing them. Especially the Ethiopian Opal absorbs water and liquids to maintain their brilliance and colour; keep it as dry as possible.
  • Do not expose gemstones to sudden temperature changes.
  • Keep sensitive stones away from direct heat.
  • Keep oil in some gemstones like Emerald, African Amethyst, Moonstone, Labradorite, Strawberry Quartz, and Tourmaline to protect them from cracks and chips.
  • Extra care should generally be taken with: Opal, Pearl, Turquoise, Emerald, Coral, Lapis Lazuli, Mother of Pearl.
  • Keep away from direct contact with perfumes, cosmetics, and hairspray. Follow the simple rule: gemstone jewelry should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off.

With simple and regular care, your gemstones can maintain their natural beauty, color, polish, and brilliance for years. Because every gemstone has different properties and may have different treatments, always choose a care method that is suitable for your specific stone.
